Michigan Alums in the NHL Playoffs

Submitted by mgowild on

There are 11 former Michigan players competing for the chance to have their name engraved on the Stanley Cup:

Andrew Cogliano (Anaheim)
JT Compher (Colorado)
Jack Johnson, Zach Werenski (Columbus)
Carl Hagelin, Matt Hunwick (Pittsburgh)
Zach Hyman (Toronto)
Jon Merril (Vegas)
Kyle Connor, Andrew Copp and Jacob Trouba (Winnipeg)

I haven't seen any threads on the Stanley Cup Playoffs, so I guess this is can serve as the de facto discussion thread on the greatest playoffs in sports. Who are you rooting for (please not the Penguins). Who's got the best chance of winning it all (please not the Penguins).

I’ll start by saying anybody but Pittsburgh because I hate Crosby...but please not Columbus...their fans d my deserve any more success as it is

I'll forever despise him, but even I, the charter member of Sydney Crosby is a Whiny Fucking Turd' club, have finally begun to admit he's truly excellent. He's had 3 goals in the last month that are just jaw dropping. Jack Johnson told me once that Crosby is actually a pretty nice guy too, so....*sigh* I've changed my tune regarding his ability.

Still hate him though and fuck Pittsburgh.

And I kinda moved past it. Maybe it's because the Pens have been a model of success and the Wings have been hot trash. Maybe it's because Carl Hagelin has won two cups in the Burgh. Maybe it's that I truly love watching Phil Kessel be the most unathletic looking athlete in a major 4 sport. Maybe it's that Geno Malkin truly is the best Russian centerman since Sergei Fedorov. There's a lot to like about the Pens once you ignore Max Talbot's 2 Game 7 goals in 2009.

Hard to bet against Crosby when the Penguins get to the playoffs. They just know how to pull through and win those big games. Like the Blackhawks during their Stanley Cup runs, the Pens would be the absolute last team I'd want to face this time of year.

Would rather face the Predators, Lightning, Bruins, whoever else in the league.

That.... Did not go well.

But go Jets!  I used to see Andrew Copp on the reg back in school.  That dude is skrong.

This time of year is better when the Tigers are good, but I love NBA/NHL playoffs and baseball starting.

I really feel for Ovechkin. Generational talent, but you can tell that when the Caps get to this time of year he knows the whole team is going to struggle, so he puts the whole team on his shoulders and tries to will them to at least get past the second round. Much less to win it all.

He must really love DC, because if I was him I'd know I'm not getting any younger, and if I wanted to hoist the Stanley Cup one day it was never going to be with this organization. Dominant in the regular season, but perennial post-season choke artists.

but there are legitimately 5 teams that could win it all (Boston, Tampa Bay, San Jose, and Winnipeg are the others). I think Pittsburgh runs out of gas in the second round. It's hard to go that deep 3 consecutive seasons.

What they've done is remarkable.  Hat hate hate Anaheim, Pitt, and Toronto.  The others would be fine but have to agree Columbus winning would be bad. Or good as OSU fans heads might explode and lessen their population.

As an Oilers fan, it's golf season...

I love Hags but in no way, as a Rangers fan, can I root for the Penguins nor stand to see them win again!

I'd love to see the Jets go deep, but I've got Nashville beating them in the 2nd round before winning the Cup.

teams made the playoffs, but will probably be a quick exit and that is the Flyers and Avalanche. But you are right the Stanley Cup playoffs are the greatest playoffs in sports and fun as hell to watch.

I wouldn't mind seeing Winnipeg win it all. Definitely anyone but Pittsburgh.

Sometimes I forget how hopeless the situation is in Detroit.

Watching good teams is an unpleasant reminder of the shit show Ken Holland has assembled.

The greatest playoff in sports and the most meaningless regular season. one day in the far future, the NHL will take my advice and switch to an all-tournament schedule.

"Name on the cup"  maybe put the Original Stanley Cup in a show case and start putting names on a new cup, instead of erasing Legends of the game from the current cup

Vegas winning it all would be cool. It makes me mad that Vegas has a longer playoff streak then the Wings.

Still bitter about 2009, so screw you Pens

Any team winning in Columbus is wrong.
