Regardless of whether Holland was back or not, there was going to be another year in the shitter. The roster is still made up of either Young role players, or aging vets. There really isn’t much in between and they’re all overpaid. There isn’t much in the short term that can be done to fix this team. So it’s ultimately a matter of whether you want Holland or some unknown GM making a top 10 draft pick.

he based that off the real-life experience of quitting his job as a writer at SNL and storming out one Friday afternoon. Then he spent the whole weekend wondering why the hell he had just flushed his career down the toilet. So he walked back in there Monday like nothing had happened, and he kept right on working there for quite a while.

I bet he stole a rather famous line and said he would walk from Detroit to lead this rebuild, never mind that that was exactly where he was anyway and therefore much unnecessary exertion was saved. I can even imagine that this cost-saving measure was proof of his acumen in the current hockey environment.

Horrible news. Holland is no team builder. He did a good job maintaining what Devellano built under different rules but hes shown he has no idea how to tear down and rebuild a club. Some of the contracts hes given out over the last 6 or 7 years in a weak attempt to keep the team relevant are head scratchers. Keeping guys like Helm and Abbie who are often hurt on bloated contracts when theres a ton of guys out there who do the same thing at half the salary pisses me off. His veteran signings when the kids need to play pisses me off.

I think the Yzerman ship has sailed though. Hes built a tremendous organization in Tampa. They had their chance with him before he left but Holland refused to move upstairs. They should have given him no choice.

Tampa is backwater for a Hockey team I still think even though he's built a good thing here with solid attendance. The Rays on the other hand, that's not where you want to be as a MLB player.

Where Michigan pulls off a rare accomplishment and puts teams in the final 4 and frozen 4, only Ken fucking Holland can throw a wet blanket on top. Fuck off Ken, time to pass the torch. You’ve overstated your welcome.

THIS RUINED MY DAY.

Mike Ilitch's grave is being pissed on by his moronic son who doesn't care about the Wings or Tigers and is content to let them rot. Fuck you Chris Ilitch. Sell now.

I could not agree more. Ken Holland catches a lot of shit and rightfully so, but I have to think he is in large part following the severely misguided direction and guidance of Chris Illitch. I also don't think that C-Illitch has it in him to make a change even if he wanted to. Ugh this sucks.

Looking at what Steve has done in Tampa.... He needs to be the #1 priority of the Red Wings Organization.

Thank you for all you have done for this franchise Ken but honestly, seriously you are no longer needed here. Ken, you don't gotta go home but ya can't stay here!!!

Let’s let him keep practicing at this GM thing. Eventually his bad contracts will come off the books, his draft picks will hit, and he’ll hire a good coach again. Patience, he’s getting there.

why not make it a few more, so you can finally have a new generation of Wings fans who really don't remember the time the Wings were the envy of all of the hockey world.

Before negging, please think this through.

Facts:

1. Holland's contract is expiring, Stevie's has 1 year to go
2. No way would Tampa let us have Stevie without compensation (1st round pick?)

3. If you give Holland a contract, it has to be for more than one year. It would look weird to have a GM on a one year extension.
4. If you fire Blashill, you have the same situation - you won't be able to hire a new coach on a one year deal. If you fire Blashill, that takes from Stevie (or the next GM) the ability to hire their own coach.

To me, this could mean that we have Holland/Blashill next year, wait it out and have Stevie in 2019.

It makes a lot of sense if you think about it.

Just don't fuck up the draft. Please god, DO NOT FUCK UP THE DRAFT.

Yes but what if Yzerman re-ups in Tampa before that year is up?

If the Bolts win the Cup this year they will need dump trucks to carry Yzermans next contract from Lightning ownership .

On the plus side there isnt an obvious GM out there that we would miss out on I guess . I just want Holland out asap . I dont want him to draft players that look good in GR and never get to play in Detroit . I dont want him to give out any more shitty contracts that include NMC's

so you re-sign Ken for how many years? Blashill has one more year on his deal. You'd have to extend him to match Ken's term. Then you're going to turn around and fire both of them with 4 or more years of combined payouts? No way. Stevie would be insane to leave a Tampa team that is primed for multiple Cup runs for A Red wings team barely drawing 10K per night with zero all-stars on the horizon. Even if they get lucky in the lottery with Dahlin, they're at least 3 years from even sniffing playoffs. Face it, Ilitch doesn't care. He will bring back the current leadership on the cheap and go back to doing whatever it is he does care about (which I have no idea what that is). Zetterber will retire in disgust this summer, and this team will struggle to crack 60 points next year. Face it, the Dead Wings era is back.

I wonder how long Zetterberg will stick around and agree he could punch out as soon as this summer. Starting next year, his salary drops to $3.3M and then $1M a year starting in 2019-2020 through the end of his contract (2021). I see no way he sticks around to the end of his contract for $1M per year - or even $3M per year. Of course if he does retire before his contract expires that would further screw the Wings with regards to the Cap as he is one of the players that would have a recapture penalty - either $4.3M or $5.0M (through 2020-21) depending on when he retires. Wonder if he would take a trade to a contender? He is one of the few Wings without a NTC.
