John Beilein Appreciation Thread

Submitted by rob f on
I won't even put this in the form of a question. Why ask if there's a classier coach anywhere when it's crystal clear: There is no coach ANYWHERE, in ANY SPORT, who is classier than the man leading our basketball program. Programs everywhere invite trouble, find trouble, and then deny trouble. Under John Beilein's leadership, trouble is NOT on our radar. CLASSIEST. COACH. A N Y W H E R E !!!

Like the annoying announcers pointed out, it goes without saying how classy Beilein is. Of course he called a timeout so the Maryland seniors could get an ovation in the last minutes.

The best coach in program history.  I don't know if there's a better pure coach (from an X and O standpoint) in the country, and while he may not be the "best recruiter," we know why that is.  He does have as good an eye for talent as anyone, with MAAR being just the latest example.

I'm enjoying the man as long as we have him.  I hope he chooses to coach another five years.

John Beilein is the best coach in the country. Without dealing with any of the bagmen, he's managed to build one of the most consistently good programs in the country with 2/3/low 4 star guys. I am super proud that he's our coach.

I got wet eyes when he called time out so THE OTHER TEAM could honor their seniors. Who does that? Who would even think about doing that? John Beilein-servant leader, that's who. What a man.

I think Beilein also has a little luck going for him this year.. had Donlon not left, we would have never hired Yaklich.. that turned out to be the best thing that happened to UM basketball this year.

was shown when JB called a timeout so Maryland could honor their Seniors when they had no timeouts Left...Class Class Class Class!!!! we are truly LUCKY to have him..AND in light of all the dirty programs now under the gun isnt nice to know we have NOTHING to worry about?..JB wasnt able to get all those 5*  recruits because they were being bought and paid for by Arizona, KY, Louisvelle, NC, Duke, MSU and many others and YET weve been to 3 sweet 16, 2 elite 8s  a final Four and NC in  the last 5 years and a couple of Big Ten titles....

But man does he know how to run an offense. It’s poetry in motion. And agree with others we are so fortunate to have such a classy, professional and ethical coach. Hope he coaches 10 more years.

GO BLUE!!

We don't know the coach personally or professionally just like all other coaches. I too wanna believe he's great but we don't know what really goes on behind closed doors. Let's hope he's not like the other coaches and turns a blind eye if anything fishy is or was going on. Just my take, go Blue

How many conference championships, final fours and national titles Mr. Beilein would have if college basketball was played (recruited) on an even playing field. And I’m not just talking about his coaching here at UM and looking at it with through homer maize and blue glasses.

I am convinced, especially given the evidence that has come out about these other programs (most top tier recruiting factories), that John Beilein is one of the top bball minds in all of basketball as well as one of the best developers of talent we see in the modern era of NCAA basketball.

His players and teams always improve, his system and IQ of the game are both flexible and aware of its own limitations, and he continues to “over achieve” in the eyes of pundits based on talent on paper.

Never was a coach so wronged out of a deserved championship as John Beilein was by Louisville and sleazy pitino. I really hope Beilein reaches the summit (obviously here at UM), but even if somewhere else for whatever reason, this is a man that deserves an NCAA championship.

That while it has been incredibly painful to follow UM football the past 15 years, we now have the right man for the job. Harbaugh is clean, he gets it, and with patience we the fan base will be rewarded with a very solid program no longer wandering in the wilderness.

Agreed. It isn't a question - I appreciate John Beilein for what he's done with Michigan basketball, and more importantly, especially in the face of everything that is going on at other programs right now, the way he has done it.

He gets the most out of his players, including some very unheralded recruits (MAAR went off for 28 today and was a two star).

Clearly this blog suffers from trolls like any other, but I’ve been shocked by our own who want to throw Beilein to the dogs whenever he has a bad stretch. Shame!

And it's nice that he's getting some of the appreciation that is well deserved and that has at times been missing from the board. Never could understand the criticism he received after losing players to early entry and injury.

Not only all class but a fiery competitor..we are certainly lucky to have him.
