Jim McElwain Did a Really Nice Thing
Aw, man. Do we have to stop making fun of him now? 'Cause we were kind of on a roll.
What's Charlie Weis doing these days?
If he ever comes here, I am not giving up the Weis jokes.
Guarantee someone wears a shark costume to the football games.
who attended the game in Dallas have a used shark costume for sale. "Only used once (not by McElwain). $50 OBO."
When I looked at your avatar really fast, I thought it was a shark symbol.
Checks out.
from a past Super Bowl half time show
What are you guaranteeing? I'd take that bet.
Weis cracks?
Plus one for the unapologetic punnage.
For use of punnage.
How the McElwains won’t talk about what they did even with the amount of peopling making fun of the loss they took on the house. Absolutely love that!! Program needs more of that
Came here to talk about sharks. Now I feel bad about myself.
Take that crap to the ocean man.
He is our asst coach now. Not OT.
Maybe he meant OT as in "on topic"
It would elevate him to new heights
If McElwain took our offense as O-Cord and turned it top 10 on the way to a National Title....
Would you dress in a shark costume and let him hump you ??
total hypothetical.....
for now
Great gesture by coach, by the way
How was this downvoted? I call it a noble sacrifice.
You call it a sacrifice????
I call it a responsibility.
Very nice story. From what I have heard, the family's child had a pretty badly deformed head. But McElwain just loves kids though...
(I know, I know, I'm going to hell...)
Von Miller took a different approach.
.... even for you
Really? This didn't even register on my "Tasteless Meter"???
The joke by his buddies...but everything floats down there.
stupid, insensitive, mindless, thoughtless, ignorant, witless, oafish, boorish, asinine, coarse, gross, graceless, tasteless, tactless, clumsy, heavy-handed, blundering or crass?
Are "ignorant" and "insensitive" really synonyms? Because some of the smartest people I've ever met have also been the least sensitive people I've ever met... ;-)
I think they are partial synonyms, meaning they have overlapping meanings and can in some ways mean the same things but in other ways differ. Ignorant commonly means "uninformed", however, "ignore" is active, whereas "to be uninformed" is purely passive. Being ignorant is more suggestive that you have avoided knowledge. Where you have avoided knowledge of how something affects someone else, in that context, I think it is synonymous with insensitive.

I'm still confused if the shark thing was real or fake? Either way, we should probably stop being dickheads about it since he's our guy now. ---Bracing for the downvotes---
“Stop being dickheads”... are you new here? It’s all some of us can add to this blog.
A dickhead is also the thing McElwain added to that shark...
If anything we’re going to be bigger dickheads because he’s our guy.
It was the jimmy johns guy who has similarities to Jim
The picture is real but not McElwain. It was a dude from New York i think
That's the beauty of it. You're never really sure it's not him . . .
HEY, Jim McElwain is on MGoBlog. The avatar faked me out.
Jimmy Johns owner, I thought.
It was not Jim McElwain nor Jimmy Johns guy, but apparently a former NY cop
I’m just so on the fence about McElwain. I guess I can like him as a person a bit more now though so that’s something.
Guess you could say that his home was...underwater...??
Not only were they willing to take a massive hit, they also left a bunch of stuff (Pool and poker tables, pool furniture) that the family had mentioned they liked. That's next level.
Nobody moves a pool table. If you can convince someone you are doing them a favor by leaving it for them then you are winning.
I've moved my pool table from 3 times and about 3,000 miles. I love my pool table (and my new company paid to move it every time
A generously outstanding thing to do, especially considering that the family probably could have afforded something a little smaller, but just as nice, without the help. And it kind of helps explain the type of person that Harbaugh hires, too. I doubt McElwain said anything about it during the interviews, but that sort of thing comes through in a person's demeanor...
So . . . that family still bought a $1.4 million house. That's not quite the spin the article puts on it, where if not for McElwain's generosity the family would be sleeping on the streets. They would have just bought a lesser mansion.
That's the spin you got? Read it again.
Yep.
