Jake Ryan has COMMITTED to Michigan
The Scout people are reporting that Jake Ryan has committed within the hour.
This makes, I believe, 8 of the top 50 Ohio prospects Michigan commits.
Of course, with Dantonio "outrecruiting" Michigan in the Great Lakes State, this softens the blow.
Well done Rich Rod. This Ryan kid seemed to have been severely underscouted and underrated.

does he have nice looking legs?
January 18th, 2010 at 2:26 PM ^
dreads? you need to have dreads
January 18th, 2010 at 2:26 PM ^
Does his torso look too long? Can't have that, y'know.
January 18th, 2010 at 3:50 PM ^
Someone please answer lbpeley's question. Is the man top tall? Also, does he have hot dog fingers?
January 18th, 2010 at 4:07 PM ^
Do his ears hang low? Do they swing to and fro?
January 18th, 2010 at 2:26 PM ^
OMG PANTLESS
January 18th, 2010 at 2:34 PM ^
got the negs. I thought the comment was hilarious. +1.
January 18th, 2010 at 2:11 PM ^
I hope he can help fill our need at linebacker glad he decided to go blue
January 18th, 2010 at 2:18 PM ^
Tom Clancy will be most pleased.
January 18th, 2010 at 2:23 PM ^
jack ryan
January 18th, 2010 at 2:29 PM ^
I read his name wrong. I am a butthole for screwing that up. For clarity sake, we will just pretend this is Jack's younger brother, or his son if you want to get technical.
Plus 1 to you sir.
January 18th, 2010 at 2:42 PM ^
..Molly Ringwold might. Wasn't that the name of the guy in 16 Candles? No not Long Duck Dong (though I hear that guy runs a fast 40 but has some drinking issues).
January 18th, 2010 at 3:41 PM ^
Jack Ryan = Harrison Ford (50% of the time) = POTUSA in "Air Force One" where he watched the Michigan/Notre Dame game.
So I think it's safe to say that Jack Ryan is All In as well.
January 18th, 2010 at 6:28 PM ^
I'd rather have Jack Ryan then Jake Ryan anyways. Then, the next time we lose to the suckeyes we can blow up Columbus and conspire to have it look like Russia did it.
January 18th, 2010 at 2:12 PM ^
Great job coach, this class is getting better by the day.
January 18th, 2010 at 2:16 PM ^
Way to go Blue! This is turning in to a very good class.
January 18th, 2010 at 2:18 PM ^
But we need to wait for the assessment of the resident expert on that topic.
January 18th, 2010 at 3:01 PM ^
I have a bad feeling that Doctor Sherwin has a large collection of mannequin legs in his basement
January 18th, 2010 at 3:38 PM ^
(and surprised) if the legs were from mannequins...
January 18th, 2010 at 2:19 PM ^
When I see this kids name I think he is going to be a character in a new Tom Clancy novel. Can Jack Ryan's son, Jake, save the world?
January 18th, 2010 at 3:06 PM ^
jack ryan's son is also named jack.
January 18th, 2010 at 2:20 PM ^
News is he has legs like the grandfather from King of the Hill.
January 18th, 2010 at 4:32 PM ^
That didn't stop Cotton from killin' fiddy men.
January 18th, 2010 at 2:24 PM ^
Hopefully he is an Omamehesque why-wasn't-anybody-recruiting-him guy. But the question is if he'll move to DE by the time this is all over*?
*kidding, Magnus.
January 18th, 2010 at 2:25 PM ^
Kid could fit at a number of LB spots... welcome aboard Jake.
January 18th, 2010 at 2:26 PM ^
Parker come on down!
January 18th, 2010 at 2:38 PM ^
I say Parker and Baxter come on down! Nick Sheridan: You are formally offered a job on the coaching staff.
January 18th, 2010 at 2:28 PM ^
An interview listed on Scout, Ryan said that he will play OLB at Michigan. Much to the chagrin of the Michigan faithful who were hoping he would be a ILB.
January 18th, 2010 at 2:35 PM ^
Something has to give. We can't have Kinard AND Wilkins AND Paskorz AND Rogers AND Ryan in the same class at the same position. Maybe Kinard really isn't going to qualify. Or maybe he considers the WILL position an outside linebacker.
January 18th, 2010 at 2:50 PM ^
If you consider our defense a 4-3 Under base D, which I do, then the WILL LB spot is technically an outside LB. It is similar to the BUCK LB in the 3-3-5 defense that he played at Ignatius. Of course, this is all speculation now, I'm sure he could move to MIKE if needed.
January 18th, 2010 at 4:16 PM ^
Well, Roh is listed as an OLB on the roster, and Steve Brown's position was clearly an OLB. So any linebackers who align themselves between those two positions should be, as I see it, an ILB. Therefore, Mouton at WILL is an ILB. If he's considered an OLB, then that means we have three OLBs on the field and only one ILB (Ezeh), which is just weird.
January 18th, 2010 at 2:40 PM ^
and 220 lb frame as a senior in high school, why would he project to OLB when our need is ILB? Am I missing something?
January 18th, 2010 at 2:49 PM ^
From the rivals article.
"I play outside linebacker and I would line up over the tight end," he said. "I would be an outside rush guy."
The way this staff recruits defense is to get a lot of bodies in place, then see where they best fit in the spring/fall etc.
January 18th, 2010 at 4:16 PM ^
"A lot of bodies" = 5 at the Quick position
I'm thoroughly confused right now, but it will all sort itself out, I guess.
January 18th, 2010 at 2:40 PM ^
Arrogance is earned, and we have.
January 18th, 2010 at 2:34 PM ^
This kid looks like an easy four star, great pick up
January 18th, 2010 at 2:37 PM ^
So we find out that the sleeper is really Jack Ryan's son Jake. Refresh my memory but I thought they only had a daughter in Patriot Games. I must have missed the last couple of books. Oh well, great pick up for Rich Rod to pull any kid out of Cleveland.
January 18th, 2010 at 2:46 PM ^
Jake was the illegitimate son in the last book about three wealthy Spanish landowners on a weekend in Manhattan.
He strayed from the formula, and he paid the price.
January 18th, 2010 at 2:41 PM ^
He looks like the newest edition to a group of very athletic but raw defensive players... even more of a reason to have a senior LB coach who knows what he is doing.
I'm gonna have to trust that RR knows what he is doing, and I look forward to this kid having some monster hits on Buckeyes in the future. Have confidence everyone!
January 18th, 2010 at 2:47 PM ^
My best guess for this kid:
He is one of those kids who play at a MAC-type school that you say "how the hell isn't this kid in a major conference?".
Of course you usually have to wait until their Junior/Senior year to say that. So... a lot of development into this kid and he should be a starter for us in ~3 years.
January 18th, 2010 at 2:49 PM ^
I like the pick up, same situation as Emilien but hopefully more immediate upside and less injury concern.
1) Check the highlight video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhKjM55xRPI at about 1 minute awesome hit on the RB
2) looks like a solid blitzer with instincts for the ball
3) a bit rangy but will do well w/some barwis magic
4) will have to see if he can learn to play ILB
5) has frame (6'3") and speed (4.6 ish) to be a beast
January 18th, 2010 at 3:02 PM ^
What impressed my most about Jake Ryan was his instincts, he knew where the ball was and knew the best way to get there. The way he came off blocks and the speed was also very impressive. Hopfuly he looks that way in the years to come.
January 18th, 2010 at 2:56 PM ^
So does anyone have any insight about why he isn't more highly rated. He has good size, he seems to have decent speed and he has a great highlight video. He's a good tackler who always seems to knock the ballcarrier backwards. He looks tenacious and has a nose for the ball. What are his weaknesses?
My understanding is that coaches and the recruiting sites generally rate kids based mostly on their highlight videos. What are they seeing that I am not?
Thanks.
January 18th, 2010 at 2:58 PM ^
I'm a little more concerned why his only other offers are all from MAC schools.
January 18th, 2010 at 3:25 PM ^
If you want to know why he wasn't more highly rated, go look at his 2008 film and compare it to the 2009. He matured physically in a big way. Compare him in the vids to Scott McVey, the highly rated backer heading to tUOOSU. I really like this pickup.
January 18th, 2010 at 3:06 PM ^
Regarding his legs.... they don't look like stumps at all.... unlike Vinopal. I actually like this pickup. Well done RR. Kid has a frame that you build muscle around without losing speed. He looks athletic. And yes, the kid looks proportioned. Lol. Like an athlete.
Welcome aboard Jake!
January 18th, 2010 at 3:04 PM ^
He was injured at least part of his Junior Year I'm almost positive. I'm not sure how much time he missed, but if it was the majority of the season that would probably play a role in why BCS schools weren't as high on him, also could of limited him from going to camps and stuff.
January 18th, 2010 at 3:06 PM ^
...that no one on this board saw him play against DG when Inkster traveled to St. Ignatius on 10/17/09. Can anyone provide input on how he performed in that game against a top-notch QB? Just checkin', thanks.
January 18th, 2010 at 3:07 PM ^
Big ups for the Three Amigos nod.
