Izzo went on a rant when Brandon Johns called him on signing day

Brandon Johns was at the game Saturday, too.

Johns, a senior forward and four-star recruit at East Lansing High School, turned down offers from Purdue, Texas, California and Pittsburgh, among others.

He also shunned MSU and head coach Tom Izzo, who had been recruiting him since seventh grade. Before Johns inked his letter of intent Nov. 10, he reached out to all the coaches who had sought his services.

The local call was the toughest.

“Yeah, he went on a whole rant,” Johns said of Izzo. “That was not what I expected. It wasn’t easy.

Sam Webb has told a great story about Izzo thinking he wrote something that hat he actually didn't write. Sam said he called and left 11 messages on his answering machine in one night. Izzo is an absolute freak show.

I have a coworker who is a typical Sparty troll. When he found out Johns was going to Michigan, he told anyone who would listen that Johns was a bad kid who didn't want to work hard. This idiot didn't realize our VP's son is best friends with Johns. Our VP who is also a staunch Sparty, says Johns is a great kid. Some of the people who support that school need to be shipped off somewhere away from the rest of us.

Wisconsin was more responsible for that pace of play as they've been playing at a snail's pace for 20 years.

And we also play at a snails pace possession-wise, but our games are better because we're good at offense and (usually) not great at defense so there's still scoring (and few fouls).

Wisonsin and MSU both play a similar brand of basketball. They want to drag you down to their level and play an ugly game, then they usually have a knack for finding a way to make a few plays late to pull off a W. Both teams are able to make runs in the tournament with this style because not many teams are used to playing that style, and they get frustrated.

MSU football does the same thing. They are able to turn the game into a shitshow, then always manage to put that one drive together late to win a game.

Sometimes you get your little brother excited when you're playing basketball and let him get the lead. Then you just come back and take it back.

But damn, I cannot stand the amount of freedom he's been given by officials. About 95 percent of the coaches in the NCAA would be given multiple technicals a game with the way he conducts himself on the court. There are times when he's nothing but class, and there are times when he acts like a little man.

I saw a couple shots of the ref's telling both coaches to get back in their box and move back.  Izzo looked like he was not allowed on the court like he usually is.

I hate seeing him out on the court when other teams are on offense.  That should be an immediate T to me, as players should not have to worry about moving around him on the court.

I generally have respect for Izzo, except when it comes to this rivalry. He called to thank you, and you rant to him? I’m glad we have Beilein. We are starting to see the fruits of those deep tourney runs.
