Drevno apologizes to OL
Per Brandon Justice, Drevno called his OL together and apolgized to them for his coaching last season. I don’t know whether to commend him or poop in a bag and mail it to him. Civlized me the former, but my id demands the latter.

Also says Harbaugh told a recruit he's a different person, but to me that's a secondary story.
Takes some guts to do this, and they are recognizing a need for change.

This feels like some Rich Rod "I want to be a Michigan Man" shit.
Maybe Drev will put his twist on it and sing "I Can Be Your Hero"

eh I remember Brady Hoke did a mea culpa for thinking he could build on the DL success from the 1997 season and blaming himself for the start of the '98 season (specifically the loss to Syracuse). He didn't appreciate that he needed to (re)emphasize the fundamentals and learned from that. This could be that, a recognition of what he needs to do better. I have no problem with that.

Not sure there was a whole lot anyone could have done to slow McNabb that particular day.
January 18th, 2018 at 5:21 PM ^
In my memory, McNabb scored TDs the first four times he touched the ball. I know it didn’t go exactly like that but it felt that way.
He was a man playing with boys that day. Weren’t we down 38-7 when Henson came in a led three garbage time TDs.
January 18th, 2018 at 5:42 PM ^
Yep, 38-7. And it was really hot that day, too. Brutal game.
January 19th, 2018 at 12:21 PM ^
That was a bad game
January 18th, 2018 at 5:36 PM ^
That was my first game at Michigan Stadium as a Michigan student. McNabb ran all over us that day.
January 18th, 2018 at 5:40 PM ^
That was my first home game as a freshman after we got duked by Notre Dame. I didn't think either was the linemens' fault at the time--maybe Glen Steele would've been able to cover an inside gap and keep contain better than Feazell but McNabb did that to everyone that year.
January 18th, 2018 at 5:53 PM ^
The Syracuse disaster was my first home game as a Michigan student as well. I still shudder every time the team faces a QB that can run.
I think it's fair to say the OL coaches can learn a lot from the mistakes of this year. I see Drevno's approach as a good first step. Now let's get some tackles!
January 18th, 2018 at 6:34 PM ^
As he was running into the end zone on one of the last td's he scored
January 18th, 2018 at 10:22 PM ^
I went to b-school with Pat Kratus, who was a DL on the 97 and 98 teams. He said the most frustrating 60 minutes of his football career was chasing McNabb all day. Man amongst boys.

sounds like the entire staff has looked in the mirror and know they didn't do a great job and need to get better. Not always an easy thing to do and hopefully it's not just lip service and everyone improves next year.
January 18th, 2018 at 10:54 PM ^
Yeah I dunno about this.
If he realizes his coaching was so bad that it merits an apology, how does it not also merit a resignation?
An apology just kinda rings hollow *and* undermines player confidence in him going forward. If he let it get this bad once, isn’t it likely to happen again?
At this high level - and with this high of a salary, his coaching isn’t cutting it and he knows it and has told others he knows it. I don’t see how that helps.
EDIT: Also, how does this not absolutely kill us on the recruiting trail with OL!? “Their OL Coach is so bad he apologized for his coaching.” Other teams don’t even need to do negative recruiting here, we’re doing it to ourselves.

a look back at the season and watching film and thinking about everything you did or didn't do to come to that conclusion. I give the guy props for doing that and knowing he was subpar this year.
Would not surprsie me in the least bit if Harbaugh has also pointed this out to him. I think it takes a big man to admit to his players he let them down and needs to do a better job for them. Drevno has done a lot of good coaching over the years and is capable of more. Sometimes we all need a kick in the ass to realize we have slipped a little bit. Admitting that doesn't mean he should automatically be fired for one poor season.
January 19th, 2018 at 12:17 AM ^
Honestly pathetic that Drevno is still on the staff, especially after some dumb apology.
The guy is the definition of Peter Principle.
Smh if both he and Pep remain.

Tim Drevno has always performed pretty well when he was solely an offensive line coach. To me he seems like somebody that may have overextended himself as an OC, because he was poor at that job and the OL play suffered as well. That being said, our OL did significantly improve as we transitioned more from Frey's stuff to Drevno's stuff again, which shows me that he is capable of developing young guys, and maybe the seniors last year were irreperably ruined by Darrell Funk and he couldn't work his magic.
I also have my homer glasses on but it's been over two weeks since I had to watch our offense so life is GOOD.
January 18th, 2018 at 4:54 PM ^
He needs to slow his roll. I am still waiting for mine from Darrell Funk.
January 18th, 2018 at 5:10 PM ^
I want apologies from my wife, not my football coach. Stop apologizing and get these young men ready to be bulldozers. You're wasting time.
January 18th, 2018 at 5:14 PM ^
Well, it's a good thing the apologies weren't for you isn't it?
January 18th, 2018 at 5:38 PM ^
Good thing he wasn’t apologizing to you then. I really don’t think he gives a rats ass about you or your opinion. He feels he failed those kids, and apologized to THEM.
January 18th, 2018 at 6:12 PM ^
So how does your wife get them ready to be bulldozers? Asking for a friend...
January 18th, 2018 at 6:22 PM ^
I'm pretty sure she couldn't do a worse job than Drevno.
January 18th, 2018 at 6:31 PM ^
wait, I missed the part where your wife...should be apologizing...for the Offensive Line play...?
January 18th, 2018 at 6:51 PM ^
Apologize for having distracted Drevno from his duties perhaps?

Props to Harbaugh for acting like a human being.
January 18th, 2018 at 4:55 PM ^
So Harbaugh is a different person or Harbaugh said Drevno is a different person?
January 19th, 2018 at 12:14 AM ^
They're both different people. Hopefully those people can coach.
January 18th, 2018 at 5:34 PM ^
Harbaugh told a recruit that he, himself, Jim Harbaugh, was a different person coming into this next season
January 18th, 2018 at 4:56 PM ^
must have been some serious disfunction on the coaching staff last year. Hope Harbaugh has done some serious self examination because if the coaching staff is underperforming that is on him.
I guess Drevno is staying since he gathered his troops to apologize. No point to doing that if he is leaving.
January 18th, 2018 at 5:04 PM ^
Let's hope that means in the role of OL coach, so he can focus on improving the OL.
Because playcalling responsibilities obviously detract from that . . . .
January 18th, 2018 at 5:40 PM ^
Apologies are an underrated quality. In this circumstance it also needs to come with an improvement plan.
It seems obvious to all that the OL was struggling between Frey and Drevno’s Zone vs Power techniques. You should have more success focus and become great at one.
We saw the gains made in run blocking when we changed direction this year. Now fix the pass blocking.
January 18th, 2018 at 6:27 PM ^
Drev only focusing on OL now because some of that power got stripped.
January 18th, 2018 at 9:22 PM ^
"A source told TWL that Drevno gathered the Wolverines o-line and apologized to them for his coaching this past season. Fans were critical of Drevno, but it sounds like Drevno himself was even more critical."
That could have been right after the bowl game, not necessarily this week.

God, I wish, but not in, wow, decades. It would be awesome if it was 1995 again and I was on a dirty couch smoking weed all day while watching "Saved by the Bell" and drinking Natural Light...
