David Harris gets Paid!

Submitted by althegreat23 on

According to Adam Schefter, former U-M linebacker David Harris has resigned for a big contract.

Jets LB David Harris signed a 4-year, $36 million deal that includes $29.5 million guaranteed.

I don't have a problem with players getting big contracts, especially Michigan Men.

Ahhhh memories.  Didn't David play way back in the day when we had Linebackers who tackled and stuff?

The good news is that Hoke & Mattison seem pretty committed to bringing back the lost art of linebacking play to our Defense.  I can't wait.

That's a gigantic amount of a contract to guaruntee. Nnamdi's contract with the eagles has 4 million less in guarunteed money, and its worth 60 million over 5 years.

Good for Harris, but I'm a little surprised someone who wasn't ultra elite would get that kind commitment from any team. They must have a lot of faith in his ability to continue to perform at a high level.

The contract is backloaded. Only $4 mil hit this year. They actually cleared a bunch of cap space this year since he was franchised and would have cost them 10.4 mil this year. What they'll do with that savings, and what they'll do in the future (they heavily backloaded Holmes' contract as well) is anybody's guess.

Last year the Jets gave big contracts to Mangold, Brick, and Revis. Harris was the only member of the core who didn't get a new contract, and he didn't say a peep about it (other than that he had faith they would reward him in due time). Nice to see a class act like Harris get what he deserves.

I was napping with the (NYC local) TV news on, and suddenly the name "David Harris" woke me up.  It was too late to hear what they were talking about (they'd moved on to the Damn Yankees) and I was afraid he was injured in boot camp.  Must have been serious to be the Jets story of the night.  Now I don't have to wait until the 11:30 broadcast to feel better.

Well at least the Lions didn't trade up in the draft to get Stanton, and then leave David Harris there for someone else .. that would be stupid, and would have been terrible. It would have been equally as bad had Lamarr Woodley still been there as well.

Wouln't David be just as happy with a little less? I mean really, who needs that much.
