Caris LeVert & art
Caris LeVert serves as both lead and lede (newspaper term) for a New York Times article about athletes interested in art. I hadn't realized his father is a graphic designer.

But this is now what a typical NYT sports section amounts to: slice of life articles rather than in-depth sports reporting.
Whenever I’m in Boston I devour the Globe’s sport section due to how they treat sports reporting, but the NYT, which actually still gets delivered to my driveway, not so much.
lot of people are able to care about more than 1 thing at a time? Because Brock Mealer and Chad Carr and Austin Hatch aren't really about sports, but I still want to see/hear/read about them.
While I get now get my news from countless sources throught the day, even from the world wide interwebz, my wife still favors reading an olde fashioned newspaper.
Regardless, the NYT has many good qualities and some of the best reporting around, but I no longer relish its sport section like I used to, it's too story oriented for me, not enough stats and barely covers college football.
Maybe I'm shallow... or maybe that's just my preference, you know?
Is this post from 1999?
Whenever you're "in" Boston, "delivered to my driveway", I'm old and I read everything online, why mess with the paper and only read when you're in Boston? Why not just go online and read their sports section?
First off, while the Globe may or may not suffer from these issues, accessing a Newpaper site is often fraught with over-crowded graphics, idiotically restricted access, and the obfuscation of box scores. Actually holding a newspaper isn't just a relic of the past, but it is a far superior way of consuming information.
I would subscribe to multiple newpapers if they didn't largely suck nards (they are useless for basic news unless you literally have no way to access the news, and even the NYT is only ever about 25% good writing). However, when I am at home in Bowling Green, I devour the Sentinel-Tribune, because their sports section is just about perfect.
I prefer paper too. But, it's just more convenient to pull out the tablet and have thousands of newspapers at my fingertips. I overcome the banners, ads and such by finding the article and going to the reader view option.
1999 to post that. If so, I would tell him to go back - mostly a lot of bad news since then.
Invents and uses time travel to go 20 years into the future so he can complain the technology is ruining everything?
That would be some futuristic irony.
Different audiences for an international newspaper from the biggest media market in the world vs a local paper for a midsize, regional city.
If you want the Herald's sports coverage but for NYC just buy the Post (or visit the Post online with an adblocker if you're against the rest of it).
It's pretty cool that there are basketball players with an appreciation for fine art collection.
HOWEVER. This article tries a little too hard to sell us on the "basketball player = artist" narrative.
Substitute noveau riche for NBA players. There are lots of noveau riche interested in art, not just noveau riche NBA players.
Notice that the article makes no mention of G League players interested in art.
To me, there's a whole lot of secondary topics here, like
1) who's advising these players about which pieces of art are good investments?
2) is this just a rush on art because Amar'e might know what he's doing?
3) how can they afford entire collections of investmentinvestment-grade art on their salaries? There are billionaire families who have been working on their collections for generations...
I suspect that you are right here. Nouveau riche attempting to emulate the behavior of old money without understanding the business (and relationships/cronyism) behind it
Nouveau...
The off-season, when sports news out of A2 is slow. I just come here to watch people argue over dumb shit, like the virtues of a physical news paper vs digital news media.
Good times.
I hadn't realized his father is a graphic designer.
Was, unfortunately. He passed away when Caris was in high school.
I distincly remember reading that in a post on mgo. RIP
he specializes in portraits of baby giraffes.
