I was thinking the exact same thing, especially in regard to Newsome.  Demonstrated that he's a captain by how he stayed around and helped the team this season.  Another year and Winovich definitely helps his draft status.  Guessing the eval came back mid to late rounds.  That's good news for us, especially when we can use some good news.

Winovich and Kinnel on Defense

Higdon for sure on Offense. As of now, Higdon looks to be the only senior offensive starter we will have next year. I've counted out Perry at this point.

Having a QB be your offensive captain is nice, but havng a junior in his first year on the team that isn't gauranteed the starting spot is just dumb... Rudock wasn't a captain and he was at least a 5th year senior.

Higdon is the only real choice for the offense.

We don't even know if he is allowed to play next year yet, we are just all hoping/assuming. And someone above said Harbaugh's captains have to be seniors, so that would disqualify him anyways.

Grant Newsome might be a good choice, depending on his health. Also, couldn't hurt for OL recruiting saying that our LT was captain two years in a row. That's got to be pretty rare.

our captains be......Chase and Grant Newsome.  Even if Newsome doesn't come all the way back and get significant playing time, this would be a perfect role for him, given all the hard work he's put in.....

defense could be any if these guys.. Winovich, Gary, Bush offense.. Newsome(if healthy) I believe Shea will step up and be a leader this offseason and Higdon is also a candidate

I think Winovich and Higdon is the easy answer, but i could see a suprise person on the offense getting this honor. Someone in spring ball and fall camp is going to emerge to be a leader on this offense, they have to.

The captains should be whoever shows up in the offseason and hit the weights the hardest, whoever shows up in the spring with a belly full of fire, and whoever has the guts to hold everyone on the team accountable in every team activity.  Maybe it won't even be a starter, maybe it will be a soph, maybe it will be a guy who was a walk on that was buried on the depth chart.  I can think of about 10 candidates.

I know Ruiz will only be a SOPH but I like his attitude and willingness to play G vs. C if it helps the team. I'm expecting him to be one of the leaders in the weight and locker room.

Assuming Patterson plays.  I feel we should go back to having a QB as a captain, even if its a stretch.  We need a QB who commands the offense.

Defense - Winovich

Offense - Higdon (or Newsome if he is cleared and a starter)

Those who stay and produce deserve the recognition.
