Bracketology: 1 and 2 seeds already set
it says they have the top two lines seeded "for the first time this week", which implies to me there could be multiple re-seedings.
I'm pretty sure they try to get the thing seeded and then just move things around as games are completed. Wouldn't be efficient to sit down at the end of all the games just get started then.
The 1's are probably set: UVA, Xavier, Nova and Kansas.
Only possibility I could fathom for those to change is if Duke wins the ACC tourney and knocks Kansas down, but Azuibuke being hurt might actually help Kansas. Committee might not even consider their B12 tourney without him and say, eh, they've done enough, they're a 1.
The 2's right now are almost certainly: Duke, UNC, Purdue, Cincinnati. Probably only chance for movement there is if Cinci loses early and Auburn or Tennessee wins the SEC to climb to a 2 (or they could have Auburn a 2 right now, in which case a Cinci or Tennessee run and early Auburn exit should similarly see them switched). I sure hope the committee is open to that movement and that's how I read it. I could be wrong, of course.
I certianly hope you are correct. I read it the bad way -- that, no matter what, for the first time this week, they have finally been able to set the 1s and 2s -- and those 1s and 2s are set for good.
What's head-scratching about it? If it is something that won't change, it just means that there are no results that can change those two positions. Basically, Auburn can't play itself into a 2, and presumably Duke can't play its way into a 1, if bracket matrix is correct.
EDIT: I think Trueblue2003 is probably correct. A committee guy yesterday said in an interview they were going to discuss one seeds for the first time today. So it may be provisional.
I think it's bizarre that either Cinci or Auburn would be already given a 2 seed. Top 7 are very solid, especially with UNC dismantling Cuse last night, but I don't see how the committee thinks an Auburn or Cinci should be guaranteed a two.
...so you don't get hurt. This is just contemporary thinking.
"for the first time"...
"I wasn't the only one confused. ESPN was confused as well!"
That is not the kind of thing you want to admit publicly, my friend...
Why do you even care? It's not like a tweet about top seeds impacts MSU.
This double-post-and-subsequent-edit is a good example of how one can finish a task "for the first time" then change it up later. Good job! Nice illustration!
If I'm constipated and don't shit on Sunday or Monday and finally shit on Tuesday, I might say, "Hey! I just shit for the first time this week." That doesn't mean it's the first shit of my life. It's my first shit this week.
And they're tweeting about it for the same reasons they do the initial seedings or tweet about anything: content. stoke interest. start a conversation. tell people they're hard at work on this important task.
So yes, they had them set Feb 11. And now they have them set for the first time this week. Possibly will be several more iterations this week.
the question, as always, is "who is getting screwed this year?"
For the new rule to be 1000 (or more) point minimum to start a thread.
It's bad enough when our fanbase makes knee-jerk, faux-panic threads. Now we have MSU fans posting tinfoil hat nonsense threads ... oy!
The title of this thread is wrong and misleading
I can't decide if you are so dense that you misunderstood the simple tweet to an astounding degree, or you are so much of a troll that you thought this was cute. Probably both.
"The committee had a really meaningless and ambiguously worded tweet"...so you probably didn't need to start a thread on another school's board about it.
Besides, Sparty fans complaining about anything the the selection committee does is ridonkulous. Few teams have benefited from an easier path the the F4 over the last two decades. It's not the committee's fault that Izzo can't beat the likes of Middle Tennessee.
more like you wanted so badly for MSU to be locked into a 2 seed despite their middling finish that you read what you wanted to into the tweet - which really isn't abiguous at all. So you read it how your little-brother heart wanted it to read and immediately posted it here. Just to get a rise out of all of us.
In other words you actually are both dense and a troll simultaneously. Congrats.
...SpartyJon has been a perfectly reasonable poster as far as I've seen. Let's not pile on just b/c he's an MSU fan. I think the board is more fun when we have non-troll posters from opposing fanbases.
Agree. The issue was the ambiguity in the tweet.
He's a fucking troll.
And FYI he was "bubba" (known troll) before spartyjon.
A few of his troll posts
"Have it your way. Going to be hilarious when Brian shuts down the forum again after we beat your ass in NYC... if you even make it to the semis.
You guys prove why everybody in the conference hates your school's fans. Congrats on being dicks to any fan of another school. Something to be proud of."
"But seriously, I'm sick of how 90% of this board is assholes. I apologize to the 10% that aren't, but I've never felt less welcomed anywhere, ever.
So I'm gone. Have fun in your echo chamber."
"90 of this pile of shit is"
"10 percent of his brain is"
That's why I wrote it like I did -
because this board isn't individuals, but some fucking insane hivemind.
I know it was subtle, but I figured you people, being the Brown of the Midwest would have caught on to what I was doing there."
and the MO is always the same. Join the board. Reasonable. Then nuclear. This latest won't last long either.
Does substitute certain phrases, though. "groupthink" is now "hivemind"
I agree with Eric_in_Dayton. SpartyJon is welcome here, from my perspective. Just because you're a fan of another team doesn't mean you're a troll. There are a couple guys who are good posters even though being OSU fans.
And I think it was an honest mistake. The reality is that the one seeds probably won't change much, if at all And the two seeds possibly could also have no change from now until the selection show.
True enough point that I bashed you while calling for inclusion. Not trying to size you up on how long you lurked.
I still think that sometimes new posters can actually just hit the ground running and take flak for doing so. For everyone to have this idea that 90% of new posters are the same person is ridiculous.
dude go write on your own sports team's blog
Amen. I can't believe people are dumb enough to fall for his nice guy act.
He got negged to hell trolling as "bubba"
He changed his name to spartyjon & trolled even more until his team got its ass kicked in the BTT tournament.
