Let's publish a full page ad in the freep showing all his 100 wins... Oh wait, that'd come across as insecure... #laughsatdantonio

Lots of Ls in there but that is a reflection of where he started.

This is a good perspective. Orr was a great. But didn’t have a lot of luck in the Tournament. Where JB has excelled is the post season.

John Beilein is going to be a difficult act to follow when he retires, but I think that's kind of what you want for your program in a way because that merely confirms that it was left in a far better state than when the previous coach arrived, and indeed, John Beilein - when he retires - will have done exactly that.

Looking again at the standings...

How did Bill Perigo keep his job that long with that awful Big Ten record (38-78)?  And why didn't George Veenker (24-10) and Ozzie Cowles (16-8) stick around longer?

I also had no idea Bennie Oosterbaan used to coach basketball.

Veenker also was a coach for the football team and left to be the head football coach at Iowa State. Cowles left to go coach Minnesota. Perigo was a local product, coaching Benton Harbor HS for 13 years, Western, and then Michigan. Everybody liked him, which might explain the record. He was also a friend of John Wooden. His overall record, while not great was more respectable at 78-100.

Minnesota was regarded a better program in those days. If not for a snowstorm, they probably would have hired Wooden instead of Cowles, because the phone call to offer Wooden the job didn’t go through, and he thought they weren’t interested so he took the UCLA job.

The future of the program has never been this bright: if we return either Moe or Charles next year, combined with our recruiting class, we could be a top 10 team. Simpson, Poole, and Livers are stars in the making.

One of my first comments almost exactly a year ago was stupid me complaining about him, and over the last year fate has directed me to understand that I should never underappreciate the security of the program that John Beilein has given us.

Congrats to coach JB and a well deserved milestone!
