Adjusted season predictions

Submitted by Moleskyn on

Michigan sits at 5-2, and we've now got a little more than half a season's worth of data. With that in mind, how do you see the rest of the schedule playing out? Have your expectations for any of the remaining games changed?

Here's what I've got:

  • 10/28: Rutgers - W
  • 11/4: Minnesota - W
  • 11/11: @ MD - W
  • 11/18: @ Wisconsin - L
  • 11/25: OSU - toss-up

Compared to my expectations coming into the season, the offense is certainly not as good as hoped. Despite that, I still don't think Rutgers, Minnesota, or Maryland have an offense capable of doing anything against Don Brown's D.

Wisconsin's offense probably plays more to the strengths of UM's D, particularly compared to Penn State's offense, but I just don't see the offense being able to go into Camp Randall to pull off a win.

The OSU game is always a toss-up. Despite the struggles of the offense, it's a home game and weird things can happen in rivalry games. I still think it will be an uphill battle for UM, but you never know in that game.

Their offense is nowhere near as good as Penn State’s and their defense isn’t better than ours. Will be close but I say we win that game.

On offense, they are 26th in S&P+ compared to Penn State's 10th.  So while they aren't as good, they aren't *that* much worse.

And on defense, they are 6th in S&P+, Penn State is 9th, and Michigan is 14th.

People are sleeping on Wisconsin. Jonathan Taylor is a top 10 RB in all of CFB and their defense is also pretty good.  That game is going to be just as challenging as the Penn State game.  There is nothing at all to give any sort of indiciation that Michigan has a good chance of winning that game.

Wisconsin is not capable of the offensive performance PSU put on last week with Barkley, a flawless McSorely, and Moorehead. I am absolutely certain of that. We certainly match up with them better than PSU. And while S&P might think highly of Wisconsin, they still have been playing straight up horrible competition. Every advanced stat loved our defense until we played an elite offense.

Here you go with your feelings posts again. You are so sensitive and I love it. I'm guessing you listen to 80's love songs while you're posting.

think we beat Wisconsin and lose a relatively close game to Ohio State.   I think the three games before those are fairly comfortable wins.  And then I think we will beat LSU or Texas A&M in the Outback Bowl.

I don’t know. I just hate how these American Conference teams get ranked this high without playing anybody. They always lose at the end of the season. It hurts the other Power-5 teams that have played much better competition.

This year there is a good chance the Holiday Bowl will select before the Outback.  Couple that with the fact Michigan has not been out to California since 2007, if Michigan finishes 9-3, even 8-4 the Holiday is more likely than the Outback.  If Notre Dame drops two of their remaining games they will take the Citrus Bowl.

Potential Matchups in the Holiday Bowl are Stanford and USC.

even though its on the road, I would say Wisconsin is way more of a toss up that OSU. I just do not see us beating OSU with their athletecism and play makers. I think we match up better against the Badgers.

I was 9-3/8-4 before the season, and I’m staying firm. My frustrations aren’t based on the losses, but the lack of (or atleast very slow) improvement of the offense from game to game. I think we have a chance against Wisconsin but I am preparing for a long day against Ohio State.

Weird things happen in CFB and weirder things happen in rivalry games at home. Still, I have WI as a toss-up, and The Game as an "L." I'm not yet a believer in WI, and am hopeful UM learned about big road night games last week. Also, hopeful the O continues to grow. That's a lotta hope. Maybe too much. I think OH is the best team in B1G and it's not that close. I think they beat PSU comfortably this week.

PSU was overrated even before our game last week. Now they're being hyped as rivaling Alabama (lol). I'm afraid that OSU is going to curb stomp them and then the narrative switches over to the fu*king Buckeyes being world beaters and JT Barrett being a top 3 Heisman candidate... Ugh

I think we can still get to 9-3.  Wisconsin has not played anyone this year and our defense will be able to stop their offense.  Probably the first team to 10 points will win that game.

Winning the next 3 puts us at 8-2. I actually think we can beat wiscy as they have played no one all season long. I see a 8-4 / 9-3 team here which would be amazing considering our current issues & injuries. If Harbaugh manages 10 wins this year I would anticipate the fire Harbaugh crowd fucking off for awhile, but I won't hold my breath.

The transitive propery seems to only exist in college football with Michigan. Michigan played XXX really shitty, so they'll play us really shitty too. And low and behold, it happens more often than not.

PSU played meh against Indiana and Northwestern, and they beat our fucking breaks off the following week. OSU plays like horseshit against MSU two years ago, sleptwalk through most of their schedule prior to that and barely scraped by, and then suddenly remembered how good they could actually be when they played against us.

I have a feeling Wisconsin will put on a great game when they play us. Defensively if nothing else. They'll want revenge too after last year.

It's interpreted. The way I see it is, We beat Florida, Florida beats Tennessee, we should therefore beat Tennessee. OSU lost to MSU who also beat us, won the division and lost to Alabama in the 1st playoff. That's not really the transitive property, but anyway, we both agree that Wisconsin will probably play their best game against us, because everyone always does.

There is no fire Harbaugh crowd here that I have seen. I haven't seen one person say something stupid like that unless it was an obvious troll. That would be a stupid thing to say at this point.

I would be pretty stoked about getting to 10 wins though. And if it happens to be the OSU game that gets us to it I think there would be a lot of happy people around here with the season.

Wiscy plays one-dimensionally because they can.  Taylor is a freaking beast in the running game averaging 7.5 yards per carry.  Hornibrook hasn't thrown much because he hasn't had to but is still completing 2/3 of his passes.  His biggest downside is his 7 picks compared to his 13 TDs.  Michigan will have to take away the run to beat them and force them to pass.  That's why the game will be a toss up.
