Was so good right up to that point.  Should there have been some type of TD prevent scheme on in case of a punt block?  The real breakdown came from letting him into the end zone, it seems to me.  Tackle him short and it's still game over.

All you jackasses saying how this is the worst ever get a grip. We almost beat the 8 team in the nation today with, count them, one turnover. We held our ground against a team that beat us bad for eight years. This is notice that we are no longer losing to them. As for the punter, he's got the brass balls to be in that position, which is more than I've ever done. No stop being a bunch of babies and support your players.

That sux, but we out played them on both sides of the ball & on special teams. The win on a 10 second fluke. We played a hell of a game, Rudock completed 3 or 4 passes for 20+, we shut down their running game & limited 'lord cook' to probably his least productive game of the season. Being 5-2, both losses by a score to top 10 ranked teams is light years ahead of where we were last year. It sux to lose to sparty, especially when it's in a gift box with a bow on top. But we're back & they know it.

That's some Maize colored glasses. We didn't outplay them on both sides of the ball.

They pretty much did what they wanted and it was probably Mixhigan's worst performance since Utah

Actually agree with this. I'm not sure who watched the same game as me. Their D was much more dominant than ours and their passing game was much better than ours. Outside of a couple flukes, our ST played better, but the good news is that we didn't get completely dominated by a really good team. That's great progress.

MSU's offense was hit-and-miss. Their last TD resulted from an  brilliant playcall.Thwy could not run, their passing attack depended on nearly-impossible to defend back shoulder throws, and they could not protected Cook when it mattered most.

Their defense did what it was supposed to do against a team with a supbar QB and an average OL.

To say that they "pretty did much what they wanted" is undoubtably the most inaccurate statement ever made on this board. That in no way reflected what happened on the field.

The game was evenly played.

I've literally never felt the way I did last night after a game before. I was shocked, numb, had no words. I know we're back as a team but that was a big game we needed to win. Can't wait til Harbaugh has a good QB to work with. GoBlue.

I felt way, way worse after the end of 12-10 Iowa game in 1985 than either this game, the Kordell game or any other game.  I was numb for a week after that debacle and the team slogged to a 6-6 tie with a shitty Illinios team the following week because they weren't over it either.  Might have been Bo's best team and had we beat Iowa I think he might have won a NC.

My worse game was the home upset by the Gophers! Michigan was undefeated and #2 in the country. I was at that game and was expecting a big win from one of Bo's best teams. Instead I left the stadium feeling very distraught! The lowest I ever felt! May be we got this type of fluke win out of system before we enter the national playoff stage next year or sometime in the next 3 to 4 years!

Rudock's inability to hit anyone in stride downfield is brutal. Even on completions the WRs still have to make circus catches. At least two targets to Jehu downfield made him leap in the air just to make a play on it.

We beat Utah and State if we can even semi-reliably complete passes downfield.

Stop bashing Rudock. He played fine. Get off his back. Everyone always bashes the quarterback. The fanbase always pounder on Gardner after losses, now the new scapegoat is Rudock. STOP. Jehu jumps a lot, haven't you noticed? The deep ball, instead of diving he jumped. That slowed down his momentum as well and the pass was incomplete. Not everything is Rudock's fault. Hill left the fullback wide open and couldn't catch up/tackle him, O'Neill fumbled the ball for a touchdown, and I'm sure some of the recievers couldn't get seperation. Rudock is a great quarterback and better than any of the opinions we have right now.

Need better players. When Harbaugh has had his chance to recruit and develop players in 2 or 3 seasons, we'll look back and know the reality of our current roster. There are about 8 guys at the most who would maybe start for one of the elite teams in the country. The rest are being coached to their max potential to hold up against great teams. In that overachiever group are almost the entire offense except for one guy, all the linebackers and all but two dbs. Plus we lack even one elite pass rusher. You're going to be in a lot of these close games against established good teams until you upgrade the roster.  But it takes time. When Michigan State has more NFL players than you, it shows you how far afield the program had strayed.

Great teams are not always defined by 5 star talent.  Instead they play together as a team.  Look at Oregon's dominance a few years ago.  They had a system and key players but one could hardly say they had outstanding players?  You can't hang this one on the defense who apart from the one blown coverage play resulting in 7 points, played reasonably well - they stopped the run and apart from Connor Cook making fantastic passes which no D could have prevented, M came up with the defensive plays when they had to.  On the other side of the ball, well I think your argument has some validity.

Yes, the officiating was the worst I think I have ever seen in CFB ever?

Yes, the officials gave the Spartans 14 points on cheap, non-existent calls.

Yes, the officials ejected our defensive captain and leading tackler.

Yes, we gave the spartans 7 points on a blown coverage.

But, we never should have been in that position, up by two points towards end of the game.  The offense was tepid, unable to sustain blocks, control the line of scrimmage, and the play calling was largely unimaginative.  We should have owned these clowns and everyone knows that sparty's secondary blew like a whore and our O-line couldn't give Ruddock a chance to throw or even open holes for our RB's?

There are two questions which linger on my mind and those of every Wolverine namely, why must we be the only team in CFB who suffers such indignities as the Tiebreaker, Stewart-Westbrook, Appalachian State, and now this?

As important, how does the team climb back from this latest indignation and sustain and build on the rest of the season?

For as many blunders are school has had, we've stolen some victories too. To name a few daggers in our favor, trey's 3 over Kansas, our 3-4 last second victories over ND, Braylonfest, henne to manningham in dantonio's first year, henne to manningham vs PSU, several wins vs OSU being heavy under dogs, rumeal hitting 3 FT's, trey stealing it from appling, AC vs IU, TD vs Virginia, I mean I'm sure there are several more, not every game goes against us, although it sure feels like it!

I understand the concept and agree that Michigan as a team are not the sole recievers of cosmic punishment and overall bad luck, but all of those instances you just mentioned are different...

Every example was something that WE executed. I would feel better about a last-second, perfectly thrown TD from Connor Cook (who played spectacularly, gotta admit) to win the game than losing because of a unforced botched punt. Michigan State did nothing to win the game on that play, we merely lost it.

I am sad. And hungover.

I was flying all day and would miss the game so I recorded it and invoked a media blackout. I touch down and grab a bite to eat and as I am leaving someone stops me and tells me how sorry he is for that game. I had my michigan sweatshirt on. dread filled me. I could never have expected that though. even my Ohio state friends texted me and apologized for such a depressing finish

I'm sure someone already has made this observation, but here goes.  Look at the event yesterday as the defining end of the 8+ years in the wilderness, which were started symbolically by the Appalachian State loss.  We spiralled into the suck, and now, we are on the upswing; instead of a fluke loss to a team we were supposed to crush, we had a fluke loss to a highly ranked rival.

I wish I could put this more eloquently, but I think we will look back at the loss yesterday as a seminal event in Michigan football, when we became good again.

Too conservative play calls when a 1st down would have ended it.

Using 2 time outs to milk maybe 4 extra seconds off the clock.

Punt was going to get blocked anyway even with a good snap and catch as should have been max protect.  Ended up being a 10 on 4 jailbreak.  Timeout would have been key here to get it right.  But they were already gone.  Even a delay of game to talk about it. would have been a better choice.

Blake should have been told on the sideline if anything goes wrong just fall on it.

Not fair to heap all the blame on Blake, yes he panicked, but the coaching errors that led up to that situation were the issue.

in a turnover and/or stopping the clock. As it turned out they got the clock down to 10 seconds. Nothing wrong with the playcalling with MSU down to one TO at the beginning of the drive.

I don't know about the jailbreak as I have not bothered to re-watch what happened. Watching it inperson was enough.

Blake already knows what to do. Do you really think that a 5th year senior has not had that drummed into his head?

How about letting the janitor in a Sparty uniform getting open for 74 yards. How do you lose him? Force them to make a long drive and take time off the clock. Instead, 2 plays under a minute and they're back in it. Fucking disaster.

Michigan's first, second, and third down plays on the last series (all runs up the middle) took 5, 7, and 6 seconds, respectively. Running sideline to sideline on those plays while being careful not to get pushed out of bounds likely would have burned 1 or 2 more seconds per play. Then, with five seconds on the clock instead of ten on fourth down, give the ball to Peppers and have him run back and burn the remaining time.

Giving the ball to DeVeon on those types of runs brought back memories of A-train getting stripped against NW 15 years ago.
