An updateable version of this lives under useful stuff in perpetuity, but we bump a new copy of it to the front page annually to remind people it exists. Now it's more important than ever because it actually contains redshirt information, unlike the official roster.

Note that Otis Reese is unsigned and has not made it to the "freshmen" column; all other recruits have, even also-unsigned Ronnie Bell, because he's indicated his recruitment is not open and he would have signed except for his Missouri State basketball LOI.

Positional designations can be fuzzy, of course.

Like "YMRMFSPA" in this site's recruiting profiles, it doesn't say Kaleb Ringer is Sam Sword or even that we think he's a future Sam Sword, just that if he were to reach the outer bounds of reasonable expectation a senior starting Ringer may resemble Sword. For most the original recruiting YMRMFSPA is listed, though I've updated many of the upperclassmen to reflect renewed expectations.

Unless the player isn't cleared to play for medical reasons he counts on the roster. That exemption is spelled out. I don't think having the AD pay players to give up scholarships would pass muster with Compliance.

Financial aid goes through the university offices, not the AD. Football scholarships include the full cost of attendance plus access to some extras. If players went through the financial aid office instead, they'd get whatever they qualified for like other students.

It's a B1G rule, so NCAA compliance isn't relevant. The Big 10 could structure it any way they want to, including allowing the aid to be outside the football limitations and administered by the AD. I'm not saying you're wrong, just that I think it should be allowed.

Dwumfour, Mone and Solomon all starting is impossible but will all get plenty of playing time.  Solomon the most with Dwum and Mone tied for snaps?

11 seniors from two classes is not a great look for those recruiting classes.  Especially if some of them could still leave. Puts things into perspective a little bit, even more so with so few seniors leaving this year.

I'm hoping there is a time soon that there will be 40 or so upper classmen. Looks like that will start to happen after next year.

This team sets up nicely for the next three years at a minimum.......of course this assumes that JH will get the coaching bugs worked out and the staff upgraded.

Definitely bring back - Mone, Winovich, Watson.

Probably bring back - Furbush, JBB (maybe he can just play on 1st and 2nd downs?)

Probably firm handshake - Marshall, Bunting.

Definitely firm handshake - Wangler.

Could see Furbush getting the firm handshake, or jetting of his own accord. Normally a contributer who plays doesn't get that treatment but there is a ton of young LB talent underneath and if some of those redshirts or younger guys project to pass him by autumn then it wouldn't be suprising if he is out.

Agree with this assessment, especially Marshall.  Don't know where the love for Marshall is coming from.  He has underperformed his recruiting hype.  We have two younger, more talented guys who need to start getting some reps.  He's probably gone unless there is unexpected attrition at another position.

Petit-Frere, Friday and Reese would certainly be a very good end to the class. That said, we're 14th now in the rankings and that includes Reese who may well bail. Plus we aren't in on many other players at this point so this may be more of a top 20 rather than a top 10 class once it all shakes out. It's thin on top talent, I wouldn't call it excellent but it can be a solid class.
